Inter Milan are reportedly interested in signing Napoli forward Dries Mertens on a free transfer.
The 32-year-old's current deal with Carlo Ancelotti's side expires at the end of this season and he has been undergoing talks about an extension with Aurelio De Laurentiis.
However, Il Mattino reports that those discussions have stalled, leading Antonio Conte's Inter to step up their interest in the Belgian international.
Should Mertens be unable to agree a new deal with Napoli before the end of the year, he will be free to negotiate with other clubs in January.
The forward has scored eight goals in 19 games for club and country this season and 114 in 288 appearances overall for Napoli since making the switch from PSV Eindhoven in 2013.
The report also indicates that Inter are hoping to pursue similar free transfer deals for Paris Saint-Germain defenders Layvin Kurzawa and Thomas Meunier.
