Wes Morgan: 'Leicester City fairytale will change Premier League'

Leicester City captain Wes Morgan claims that his side's unlikely title challenge this season will have an effect on the Premier League in years to come.

Leicester City captain Wes Morgan has said that he believes his side's title challenge this season will have a lasting effect on the Premier League.

The Foxes have transformed themselves from relegation favourites to title favourites this season and currently top the table by five points with just 13 games remaining.

Should they go on to lift the Premier League trophy then they would arguably be the most unlikely top-flight champions in English football history, and Morgan believes that it would force the traditionally bigger teams to rethink their strategy.

"It's a bit of a fairytale, a big surprise to everyone, but we have real belief in ourselves and deserve to be here. In Premier League history you have the top four who tend to be the outstanding teams that beat most of the teams, and this season has been a bit of a change," he told reporters.

"There have been teams promoted from the Championship coming and competing and beating the top teams. That dynamic has changed a lot this season and I think it will continue through the seasons coming. The so-called bigger teams will have to re-analyse how they go about buying players.

"If you have spent £100m on a player it doesn't necessarily mean they are going to bring you the title or bring you success. Teams will probably look at us and the likes of Bournemouth and Norwich and think, 'maybe we need to re-analyse how we go about buying our players and our policy of signing people'."

Leicester take on title rivals Arsenal in a top-of-the-table tussle at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
