Brendan Rodgers is confident that Liverpool will take a great deal of confidence from their narrow League Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of Chelsea in order to push on in the Premier League.
The Reds have recovered from a slow start to the campaign to close in on a Champions League qualification spot, although they still sit 10 points off fourth place with 16 games of the season left to play.
Defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night ensures that Liverpool can now focus solely on their FA Cup and Premier League ambitions, however, and Rodgers is confident that his side have what it takes to continue their top-four push.
"We can take a lot from this run in the competition," he told the club's official website. "We got our identity back again and now we have confidence to hopefully finish the season well.
"I've got immense pride. The team gave everything, but we just failed to make that step to the final. I'm very proud. I thought that over the two games we were the better side, but that we failed to take our opportunities.
"We created enough. Our performance level was very good, but ultimately you want to win and these are games that, unfortunately, we just missed out on."
Liverpool are back in league action on Saturday afternoon when they play host to West Ham United at Anfield.
