Jamie Carragher hits out at "mentally weak" Liverpool

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher launches a scathing verbal attack on the current Reds team in the wake of their Premier League defeat at Crystal Palace.

Jamie Carragher has lambasted the current Liverpool side in the wake of their 3-1 defeat away at Crystal Palace this afternoon.

Last season, the Reds saw their Premier League title hopes all but end when they threw away a three-goal lead at Selhurst Park in May.

Since then, leading goalscorer Luis Suarez has left for Barcelona, although manager Brendan Rodgers spent a reported £120m on bolstering his squad.

Despite that recruitment drive, former Liverpool defender Carragher believes that the team has still not learned from the negative traits that cost them so dearly in South London last term.

"This is more than just a poor start - there is something wrong. They are getting bullied out of games. At the end of last season we said they were mentally and physically weak, nothing has changed," he told Sky Sports News.

"They've spent £120m and Suarez has gone. So what Suarez has gone? [They're] still mentally weak and [have] no leaders on the pitch.

"As a Liverpool fan, the worst thing that you can ever throw at your own team or think of them is [that they're] being bullied and [are] weak and that's what you've seen from them today. It's not for the first time, it's been going on all season."

The loss - Liverpool's third in a row - has left the Merseysiders 12th in the Premier League table after 12 games.
