Steven Gerrard hails "top drawer" Mohamed Salah

Steven Gerrard admits that he was among those to question whether Mohamed Salah would make any real impact at Liverpool, but is pleased to have been proven wrong.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has insisted that Mohamed Salah has gone a long way to proving his critics wrong with his start to life at Anfield.

The Egypt international already has 10 goals and three assists in 15 appearances for the Reds in all competitions since arriving from Roma in a £39m summer deal.

Some questioned the club-record fee handed over to sign the 25-year-old, who failed to make much of an impression during his previous spell in the Premier League with Chelsea.

Gerrard is delighted to have seen the pacey attacker hit the ground running on Merseyside, while also praising Liverpool's transfer committee for pushing through the deal.

"When he first came I, along with a lot of Liverpool fans, wasn't quite sure how it was going to work out for him," he told BT Sport. "But you've got to give the manager and the recruitment staff at Liverpool a huge amount of credit for spending that amount of money on a player who it hasn't worked out for in the Premier League before.

"He's come in and he's been absolutely top drawer this season. He's been Liverpool's best player by a mile."

Liverpool, who signed three other players during the summer, are currently fifth in the Premier League table after 11 matches.
