Sadio Mane feared he 'would not get on' with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool winger Sadio Mane admits that he initially felt that he would not get on with Jurgen Klopp after their first meeting.

Liverpool winger Sadio Mane has admitted that he felt that he would not get on with Jurgen Klopp after their first meeting.

The German wanted to sign the Senegalese winger while he was Borussia Dortmund boss in 2014 but Mane eventually chose Southampton before the two were united at Anfield.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, Mane said: "He was talking too much and I said, 'Wow, this is going to be tough for me because I'm a little quiet'."

The 27-year-old has become an integral part of the club's identity in recent seasons, playing a leading role in the side's victory in the Champions League last season.

Mane added that he now has a close relationship with his manager, saying: "Everybody loves him and that is more important, to be honest. He is a bit of a funny guy but at the same time he is a serious guy.

"Usually when I am talking to him off the pitch it is about personal things. Things about lifestyle and life - and that is important to me. I think I have somebody I can confide in."

Mane has scored eight goals already for Liverpool this season but he was unable to prevent his side's winning start to the league campaign from coming to an end against Manchester United on Sunday.
