Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has declared his intention to force his way into the first team ahead of Jordan Henderson.
Shelvey has not started a Premier League game since the Reds' 3-1 defeat to Stoke City on Boxing Day, and the former Charlton Athletic man has earmarked the advanced position Henderson is currently operating in for the Reds.
"I'm happy for him [Henderson] to get his games but I want to be the one in his shoes and getting myself back into the team," Shelvey was quoted as saying on the club's official website.
"Stewart [Downing] and Jordan were not playing at the start of the season and they have worked hard day-in, day-out since to force their way into the side.
"They've worked their socks off to get back into the team and it's paid off for them."
Liverpool travel to Manchester City on Sunday.
