Roy Hodgson selects Andy Carroll, Steven Gerrard and Stewart Downing in the starting XI for England's game with Norway in Oslo.

Former Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has selected a trio of Reds players in the starting XI for his first game in charge of England.

Steven Gerrard captains the side, while Andy Carroll leads the line - supported by Ashley Young - and Stewart Downing starts despite failing to score or provide an assist in 36 Premier League games this season.

Goalkeeper Robert Green makes his first Three Lions appearance since his disappointing display in England's World Cup draw with the USA in 2010.

Scott Parker has recovered from his Achilles injury and partners Gerrard in central midfield.

Fulham duo Brede Hangeland and John Arne Riise are familier faces in the Norway team, along with Blackburn Rovers winger Morten Gamst Pedersen.

England: Green; Jones, Jagielka, Lescott, Baines; Milner, Parker, Gerrard, Downing; Young; Carroll

Norway: Jartsein, Hogli, Demidov, Hangeland, Riise; Henriksen, Abdellaoue, Elyounoussi, Pedersen; Tettey, Braaten
