Liverpool are apparently turning their interest back to Jose Enrique after missing out on Gael Clichy.

Newcastle’s left-back Enrique is a long-standing Kop target, but his £15m price tag had prompted Kenny Dalglish to instead set his sights on Gael Clichy, who yesterday signed to Manchester City from Arsenal for £7m.

Reports suggest that Liverpool will make their interest in the Spaniard, who has a year remaining on his contract, more concrete with an £8m bid.

Arsenal are also said to be interested in the 25-year-old as a replacement for the departing Clichy.

Meanwhile, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing are additional Anfield targets to join Jordan Henderson, Liverpool’s only summer signing to date.
