Manchester City 'to beat Liverpool to Marc-Andre ter Stegen'

Manchester City reportedly overtake Liverpool in the race to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen this summer.

Manchester City have reportedly overtaken Liverpool in the race to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen this summer.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the German shot-stopper at the end of the current campaign, with incumbent No.1 Simon Mignolet having committed a number of high-profile errors this season.

Numerous reports have put Ter Stegen as Jurgen Klopp's primary goalkeeping transfer target, but The Telegraph reports that he could be set to miss out on the 23-year-old.

Manchester City are expected to bring in an array of new players when Pep Guardiola arrives at the club this summer, and Ter Stegen could be one of those, according to the report.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach stopper is thought to be unhappy with his status as the cup goalkeeper at Camp Nou, appearing in just four La Liga games over two seasons.

Both Liverpool and Man City have reportedly lodged bids, but the player is understood to prefer a move to the latter, where he would compete with Joe Hart for the starting spot.

Should Ter Stegen leave, Barcelona have also been linked with a move for Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois to replace him.
