Report: Christian Benteke will not force Aston Villa exit

A report claims that Christian Benteke will not hand in a second transfer request at Aston Villa, meaning that Liverpool will have to pay his full £32.5m buyout clause.

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke will reportedly not force through a move away from the club this summer, despite his wish to play European football.

The Belgian international has been tipped to leave Villa Park in recent weeks, with Liverpool said to be particularly interested, although Tim Sherwood plans to open up talks with the in-demand marksman.

It was revealed last week that Benteke has a £32.5m buyout clause written into his contract, and it is likely that Liverpool will have to pay the full amount if they wish to land their rumoured top target.

A report in The Telegraph claims that the Villa star will not hand in a transfer request, as he did two years ago, meaning that the Reds' proposed bid of £20m will fall well short of the asking price.

Benteke has also been linked with a switch to Arsenal, who are seeking further options up top ahead of a Premier League title charge next season.
