A report claims that Liverpool want to sign £20m-rated Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach in the January transfer window.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly ready to make Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka his first signing.

Klopp is expected to be given funds to improve his squad in the January window having taken charge of the Anfield club earlier this season.

According to Bild, Liverpool's top target is Xhaka, who has been an ever-present for Gladbach since joining the German club from Basel in 2012.

The 23-year-old, who has 39 Switzerland caps to his name, has scored three times in 11 league appearances for his Bundesliga team this season.

It is understood that Liverpool will have to pay in the region of £20m to sign the midfielder, who is also said to be interesting Arsenal.
