Christian Gourcuff plays down dramatic victory

Lorient boss Christian Gourcuff says that things could have turned out differently during his side's 2-1 victory over Montpellier HSC.

Lorient boss Christian Gourcuff has urged his team not to get carried away with their 2-1 victory over Montpellier HSC.

The champions led by a goal to nil as the game entered stoppage time, but goals from Alain Traore and Jeremie Aliadiere sent the home crowd into raptures.

Gourcuff, whose side was on the receiving end of a similar fate last week, said that there are still things that need to be worked on.

"As long as the game is not over we can keep believing - but we are well aware of the fact that things could have turned out differently," said Gourcuff. "That is why it shouldn't all come down to the result.

"There are some positive things and others that are not so positive, even if the three points will do us a lot of good. It is tough on Montpellier, as we know well.

"It was important to get off to a good start so we didn't have a knife to our throats early on. The biggest positive is that we always wanted to keep playing - but we can still do much better."

Lorient will travel to Troyes next Saturday.
