Jesus Navas: 'Manchester City can challenge for Champions League title'

Man City winger Jesus Navas says that beating Roma and qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League can be a platform on which a title challenge can be built.

Jesus Navas believes that Manchester City can challenge for the Champions League this season if they get past Roma to qualify for the last 16.

Manuel Pellegrini's side travel to the Stadio Olimpico tonight in their final Group E game knowing that victory could see them progress into the knockout stages.

They beat group winners Bayern Munich 3-2 at the Etihad last month to reinvigorate their second-round bid, and Navas says that the squad is good enough to compete for the title.

"If we can get the result we need in Italy then it can certainly be a springboard to further European success," the 29-year-old told Sky Sports News.

"We've got a good enough squad to be fighting on various fronts for silverware this season but first of all our minds our fully focused on the job at Roma.

"Hopefully we can get the result we need and then we will look further ahead at the rest of the Champions League campaign."

Failing to beat the Giallorossi would represent the Citizens' third group-stage exit from Europe's elite competition in four years.
