Nigel de Jong: Premier League is priority

Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong insists that the Premier League is the club's main priority this season, despite their participation in the Europa League.

Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong has insisted that the Premier League is the club's main priority this season, despite their participation in the Europa League.

The Blues need to overturn a 1-0 deficit when they host Sporting Lisbon in the second leg of their last-16 tie on Thursday.

"Our main goal is the Premier League, that doesn't change," De Jong told the club's official website. "But we're still in the Europa League and for us, the only way we can succeed this season is to win one of the prizes.

"After we won the FA Cup, everybody is hungry for more. That's how it has to be at this club, and we will be very disappointed if at the end of the day we have no trophies."

City are currently one point behind leaders Manchester United in the Premier League table.
