Joe Hart backs Gareth Barry for England captain

Joe Hart hails his Manchester City teammate Gareth Barry as a great leader.

Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart has backed Gareth Barry as the right man to lead England.

Regular captain John Terry is likely to give up the armband for coming friendlies over his part in the alleged Anton Ferdinand race row, and Frank Lampard is in line to take it in Terry's place.

However, Hart believes that his City teammate is the man for the job.

"Gareth's the man, simple as that; someone I look up to. If you spoke to anyone who knew the guy, they would say the same," Hart said.

"He does as you should and leads by example, no messing around. A very good performer every week, who never moans.

"Not a lot seems to go wrong for him, so he is always the guy you can look to."

England's captain to face Spain at Wembley tomorrow will be announced later today.
