Manchester City 'still eyeing Diego Simeone'

Diego Simeone reportedly remains on Manchester City's wish list to replace Manuel Pellegrini, despite being close to agreeing a new deal with Atletico Madrid.

Manchester City will reportedly still put Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone on a shortlist to replace under-fire manager Manuel Pellegrini this summer.

The Argentine coach, who led Atleti to their first Spanish title in 18 years last season, is close to agreeing a new contract with the Rojiblancos, which will keep him at the club until 2020.

However, The Mirror claims that the Blues hierarchy are not giving up on the prospect of luring Simeone to the Etihad Stadium, and the 44-year-old is understood to be open to the idea of moving to England.

It is thought that Simeone's new contract would include a get-out clause, requiring a new club to pay £6m compensation to Atleti.

The Citizens are also believed to be keen on Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola, while Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is also said to be a possible option.
