A report claims that Manchester City playmaker David Silva is to put pen to paper on a one-year contract extension at the club, keeping him in place until 2020.

David Silva is close to agreeing a new contract with Manchester City to keep him in place for the next three years, according to a report.

The Spain international is said to have been in talks with the Citizens on and off since the start of last season over extending his current deal by a further 12 months.

Silva was due to see his existing contract expire at the end of next season, but the Daily Mail suggests that the playmaker is on the verge of finally putting pen to paper on fresh terms.

After hitting a stalemate in discussions earlier this year, it is claimed that there has now been a breakthrough as City are willing to increase the 31-year-old's wages.

Silva joined the two-time Premier League champions from Valencia in 2010, going on to win every domestic trophy available during that time.
