Manchester United accept that their early elimination from the Champions League will impact their summer transfer business.

Manchester United have reportedly accepted that their early elimination from the Champions League will have an impact on their transfer business ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

The Red Devils were confirmed as fourth-place finishers in Group A when they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

The 20-time English champions needed to triumph in order to secure at least third, which would have seen them advance to the Europa League knockout round playoffs.

However, a second-half goal from Kingsley Coman saw Bayern, who had already been confirmed as section winners ahead of the game in Manchester, win the match.

Man United will therefore not play European football in the second half of the season, with a disastrous group-stage campaign seeing them pick up just four points.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the club's transfer activity for next summer will be impacted by their early elimination from European football.

The report claims that the loss of revenue from the Champions League and Europa League, in addition to the rules surrounding Financial Fair Play, will harm Man United's chances of spending heavily in the summer of 2024.

The club signed Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount and Andre Onana for big money over the summer, but Sofyan Amrabat and Sergio Reguilon were both brought in on loan from Fiorentina and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.

Jonny Evans arrived on a free transfer following his release from Leicester City, while Altay Bayindir is said to have cost around £4.3m from Fenerbahce.

Man United were heavily linked with Harry Kane, but the England captain ultimately made the move to Bayern Munich from Tottenham.

Declan Rice is also thought to have been a target, but the central midfielder made a big-money switch to Arsenal from West Ham United.

Man United are said to have been keen to spend more over the recent summer market, but the strict rules surrounding Financial Fair Play made it difficult, with Amrabat only moving on loan from Fiorentina rather than on a permanent basis.

The Red Devils are again expected to overhaul their squad next year, with Jadon Sancho, Casemiro, Raphael Varane, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial among the players being linked with exits.

Man United's budget for next summer would also be further impacted if they are unable to secure a Champions League finish in the Premier League table.
