Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick could be in line for a return to the international set-up.
Manager Roy Hodgson will name his England squad this afternoon for their friendly against Italy on August 15.
Carrick, 31, ruled himself out of contention for Euro 2012 due to uncertainty over his starting place, but could go back on his decision with injuries ruling both Scott Parker and Gareth Barry out.
Hodgson may also choose to rest some of his top players, including Liverpool's Steven Gerrard, leaving Carrick with a good chance of adding to his 22 caps.
Hodgson's full squad is due to be announced at around 1pm.
