Daley Blind wants Louis van Gaal stay

Manchester United's Daley Blind wants manager Louis van Gaal to stay at the club amid reports that he will be sacked in the coming days.

Manchester United's Daley Blind has said that he wants manager Louis van Gaal to stay at the club.

The 64-year-old Dutchman guided United to their first major trophy in three years yesterday courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final, but just moments after the final whistle news broke that Jose Mourinho is set to take over in the coming days.

Van Gaal appeared to confirm the news when he told reporters that "it's over" while leaving the team hotel earlier today, but Blind is eager to see his compatriot remain at Old Trafford.

"It is a great atmosphere and the team is really close. The manager was very happy afterwards, like everybody else," Blind told reporters after Saturday's final.

"It is the first time I have heard that Jose Mourinho will take over. Do I want Louis van Gaal to stay on as manager? Yes. I just hope the manager stays."

Mourinho is expected to take over from Van Gaal within the next 48 hours, with the latest reports suggesting that his agent Jorge Mendes is flying in to finalise the deal on Tuesday.
