Rio Ferdinand calls for homegrown coach

Rio Ferdinand thinks that an English manager should replace Fabio Capello in order to prevent things getting "lost in translation".

Manchester United defender and former England captain Rio Ferdinand believes that the Football Association should appoint an Englishman as Fabio Capello's successor.

The Italian decided to step down from the Three Lions role following a dispute with his bosses over the dismissal of John Terry.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has become the favourite to take the national team to the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine this summer, and Ferdinand believes that the 64-year-old is the right man to lead them forward.

The 33-year-old tweeted: "I think we need an English manager now, we don't need anything else lost in translation....Harry Redknapp would be my choice by a distance."

Former interim Chelsea coach Guus Hiddink, Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho and ex-Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez have been amongst the foreign elite linked to the vacant managerial role.
