Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said that he is delighted with Wayne Rooney after his side's 2-0 win against Otelul Gulati in the Champions League.
The 25-year-old started in central midfield with Anderson at Old Trafford and was on the scoresheet late on, although the goal may later be put down as an own goal.
"I thought he was fantastic in the centre of midfield," Ferguson told Sky Sports News.
"His awareness of people around him and his choice of passing were very, very good so he did really well for us tonight."
The Scot was also sympathetic towards Michael Owen who had to come off after ten minutes with a thigh injury.
"It's a tragedy for the lad," he added. "We really feel for him, he's such a good player."
United will now turn their attention to Sunderland who they host in the Premier League on Staurday.
