Steven Gerrard sent off 48 seconds after coming on against Manchester United

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard is sent off less than a minute after coming on as a substitute in his final appearance against Manchester United.

Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard has been sent off less than a minute after coming on as a half-time substitute against Manchester United at Anfield.

The Reds talisman came on at the break of the crunch Premier League clash as a replacement for Adam Lallana, who appeared to be withdrawn with an injury.

Within 48 seconds of the restart, however, Gerrard was shown a red card by the referee for stamping on Ander Herrera's shin, leaving his side to fight on against their great rivals with 10 men.

This will likely be Gerrard's last ever appearance against United ahead of his summer move to Los Angeles Galaxy.

Man Utd went on to beat Liverpool 2-1.
