Pep Guardiola will reportedly reject an approach from Manchester City, waiting until Sir Alex Ferguson retires to take over at rivals United.

Pep Guardiola will reportedly reject an approach from Manchester City so that he can become Manchester United manager when Sir Alex Ferguson retires.

Reports surfaced earlier in the month that City had told the Catalan to name his price in regards to taking over in the summer.

According to the Daily Star though, Guardiola would prefer to take over at United, a job which could also become available in the summer.

The report says that even if Ferguson continues as United manager, Guardiola will wait another year.

The 41-year-old is said to have met Ferguson several times to discuss taking over, despite the Scot saying recently that Guardiola had not decided what to do.

United are ready to offer him a three-year deal, with Guardiola bringing in two assistants and three new coaches for the youth programme.
