Sir Alex Ferguson confirms that Phil Jones will be absent from this weekend's match against QPR, but has an "outside chance" of being fit to face Real Madrid on March 5.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Phil Jones will be unavailable for this weekend's Premier League clash against Queens Park Rangers.

There have been doubts over the defender's fitness since he was spotted leaving Old Trafford on crutches after picking up an ankle injury during United's 2-1 win over Reading in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday evening.

Ferguson has revealed in a press conference today that Jones will be out of action for this weekend's match but has an "outside chance" of being fit for the crucial second-leg battle against Real Madrid in the Champions League at Old Trafford on March 5.

United head into this weekend's game against QPR 12 points clear at the top of the league table.
