Manchester United have reportedly not given up hope that they will be able to lure Pep Guardiola to Old Trafford in the summer.
There is a widespread school of thought that the Spaniard will take charge of United's rivals Manchester City when he steps down as Bayern Munich head coach at the end of the season.
However, despite having recently denied that they had made contact with Guardiola, United believe that they are still in the running to secure the 45-year-old's services, according to the Daily Mail.
Current United manager Louis van Gaal's position is said to be precarious, with the Red Devils on their lowest points return after 23 games in the Premier League era.
Jose Mourinho and Ryan Giggs have also been linked with the post should United part company with the Dutchman.
