Manchester United supporter Rory McIlroy has told Jose Mourinho that he would welcome him at Old Trafford "with open arms".
The Portuguese boss is out of work following confirmation this afternoon that he has left Chelsea by mutual consent following a run of nine defeats in 16 Premier League outings.
The world's number three golfer McIlroy mocked one of those losses - 3-1 at home to Liverpool in October - on Twitter by writing "#TaxiForJose".
However, upon learning of Mourinho's departure from Stamford Bridge, the 26-year-old admitted that he would love to see him replace current United manager Louis van Gaal.

Earlier today former Arsenal and England midfielder Paul Merson claimed that Mourinho's availability could be a tempting proposition for United.
