Wayne Rooney is hoping that his boyhood club Everton defeat Liverpool during tonight's Merseyside derby.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has handed his support to Everton ahead of this evening's Merseyside derby against Liverpool.

Rooney is a boyhood Everton fan, having spent his youth career with the Toffees until he joined United in 2004.

"Cant wait for game tonight. If everton win they go above liverpool. Come on everton," Rooney wrote on Twitter.

Everton have not won at Anfield since 1999 over 12 visits.
