Peter Schmeichel: 'Zlatan Ibrahimovic was born to play for Manchester United'

Zlatan Ibrahimovic was "born to play" for Manchester United, says former Red Devils goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel believes that Zlatan Ibrahimovic was "born to play" for the Red Devils.

Schmeichel has drawn comparisons between the Swedish striker and another former Old Trafford legend Eric Cantona, and insisted that Ibrahimovic could still make a move to the Premier League.

"Last summer there were rumours that he would come to Manchester United. I then said that Zlatan was built for the club, he was born to play there," Schmeichel told L'Equipe.

"It's why Cantona was so strong when he was there, not at Leeds [United] or in all other clubs in France? Why? Because it is Manchester United. In Manchester, there was the freedom given to the players, but also responsibilities."

Ibrahimovic has won domestic titles in the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and France but has never played in England, though he did turn down a move to Arsenal as a teenager.
