Antonio Valencia could face a spell on the sidelines as he left Manchester United's training ground on crutches and wearing a protective boot.

Manchester United midfielder Antonio Valencia could be facing some time on the treatment table after he was pictured using crutches on Tuesday.

The Ecuadorian was seen leaving the Red Devils' Carrington training ground on crutches as well as wearing a protective boot over his right foot as staff continue to evaluate the injury he picked up in the 2-1 win at Liverpool on Sunday.

The 27-year-old is thought to have hurt himself while winning the decisive penalty at Anfield despite appeals from Reds defender Glen Johnson that he dived to earn the spot kick.

The Daily Mail reports that it is still unclear as to how long Valencia may miss.

Meanwhile, captain Nemanja Vidic is expected to miss two months of action following an knee operation.

United host Newcastle United in the Capital One Cup third round on Wednesday night.
