Arsenal 'rival Manchester United for Mats Hummels'

Arsenal could rival Manchester United for the signature of Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, according to reports.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to compete with Manchester United for the signature of Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels this summer.

The People claims that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has asked to be kept informed about the German international's availability.

United have been heavily linked with the player and could secure a £30m deal, despite Dortmund suggesting that he is not for sale.

Louis van Gaal is said to be in the market for another central defender as he intends to play three at the the heart of his back line.

Meanwhile, Wenger is rumoured to be eyeing a move for Hummels as a possible replacement for Thomas Vermaelen, if the Belgian international leaves the Emirates Stadium this summer.
