Brighton reportedly lead the chase to land Manchester United striker Federico Macheda on loan in January.

Brighton & Hove Albion have emerged as the leading contenders to sign Manchester United striker Federico Macheda on loan.

The 21-year-old Italian is expected to leave Old Trafford on a temporary basis during the upcoming January transfer window.

Macheda has previously been loaned out to Sampdoria and Queens Park Rangers in recent seasons.

Championship side Brighton now have a good chance of landing the forward in the New Year, according to The Sun.

Blackpool and Hull City are also thought to be interested in Macheda.
