Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is 'no longer on speaking terms' with unsettled forward Marcus Rashford, according to a report.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is reportedly 'no longer on speaking terms' with Marcus Rashford.

The 27-year-old continues to train with the first team at the club, but he has not been involved since December 12 and was again overlooked against Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday night.

When asked for an update on the situation after the 1-0 success over Fulham at Craven Cottage, Amorim said that nothing had changed, implying that Rashford was still not applying himself properly in training.

Amorim claimed that he would rather name 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital on his bench over a player who was not willing to give the maximum each and every day on the training field.

"It's the same situation for every player," Amorim told reporters during his post-match press conference. "If you do the maximum, if you do the right things – we can use every player.

"You can see it today [Sunday] on the bench – we miss a little bit of pace to go, to change the game, to move some pieces, but I prefer [it] like that. I will put Vital [on the bench] before I put a player that doesn't give the maximum every day so I will not change that."

Amorim, Rashford 'no longer on speaking terms'

According to The Guardian, Amorim is 'no longer on speaking terms' with Rashford, with the relationship between the two individuals hitting a new low.

Rashford continues to be linked with a loan departure in the latter stages of the January transfer window, but it is certainly possible that he will still be at Man United past the winter deadline.

Juventus and Barcelona are interested in the Englishman, but AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund are no longer in the race, and his options are now limited despite a host of speculation earlier in the transfer window.

Rashford has allegedly accepted that he may have to stay for the rest of the season, as his £325,000 a week wages have priced him out of a switch to a number of European clubs.

However, unless there is a drastic change, he will continue to be overlooked by Amorim, leaving Man United to pay out a substantial amount of money every week for a player who is not contributing on the field.

Amorim 'doesn't know' if Rashford will leave before transfer deadline

"I don't know. I really don't know," Amorim told reporters last week when asked whether Rashford would remain at Old Trafford.

When pushed on whether the forward could be reintegrated back into the side, Amorim said: "Guys, it's 10 days, 10 days until the end and then we will see at the end of the window and then we will talk about that in the moment."

Rashford has scored seven goals and registered three assists in 24 appearances for Man United during the 2024-25 campaign, including four goals and one assist in 15 Premier League outings.

The Englishman played as a centre-forward in Amorim's first game in charge of Man United against Ipswich Town back in November, and the Red Devils continue to struggle in the final third of the field, with neither Rasmus Hojlund nor Joshua Zirkzee convincing when it comes to the spot at the tip of the attack.
