Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has reportedly rejected claims by Louis van Gaal that he turned down the opportunity to feature for the club at Aston Villa on Friday night.
Throughout the summer, De Gea has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, speculation which resulted in Van Gaal leaving his first-choice stopper out of the starting lineup for the game with Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
On Thursday, the Dutchman revealed that De Gea would again miss out after claiming that the Spaniard had declined the chance to play in the West Midlands, but according to BBC Sport, sources close to the player say that he is surprised at being left on the sidelines.
Sergio Romero will deputise for De Gea at Villa Park.
