David Raya is reportedly close to agreeing personal terms with Tottenham Hotspur, however Spurs are currently unwilling to pay the Bees' £40m valuation of the goalkeeper.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly taken the lead in the race to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, with the North London club close to agreeing personal terms with the player.

Spurs are looking for a new first-choice stopper after Hugo Lloris expressed his desire to leave this summer, and the Bees' number one has been the topic of intense transfer speculation.

The 27-year-old joined Thomas Frank's side from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2019, achieving promotion to the Premier League during his second season and helping the club to a ninth-placed finish this term in the top flight.

According to the Evening Standard, Spurs' talks with Raya over his personal terms in the deal are progressing well and are close to completion.

The report adds that Brentford are standing firm on their £40m valuation of the Spaniard, despite Ange Postecoglou's men being unwilling to pay such a fee for a player who only has a year left on his current contract.

It is understood that Chelsea and Manchester United are keeping tabs on Raya's situation this summer, although it is Spurs that remain closest to securing the services of the two-time Spain international.
