Romelu Lukaku is reportedly due to meet with Inter Milan officials on Friday after returning from Manchester United's pre-season tour.
The Belgian travelled to Australia and Asia with the Red Devils but did not play any minutes because of an alleged minor injury.
United flew back to Manchester this morning and, according to the Daily Mail, Lukaku did not leave the airport as he immediately boarded a flight to Belgium.
Talks between the 26-year-old and Inter are expected to accelerate over the next 48 hours and there is hope that a transfer could yet go through.
Inter have so far been unable to match United's £74.8m valuation, but all three parties are keen for a resolution to be found before the window closes.
