Sadio Mane has revealed that he considered a move to Manchester United before eventually joining Liverpool from Southampton in the summer of 2016.
The 27-year-old has scored 77 times and contributed 34 assists in 161 appearances for Jurgen Klopp's side, including 18 goals in all competitions during the 2019-20 campaign.
However, the Senegal international has revealed that he was "thinking about" a move to Old Trafford before completing a switch to Anfield after two seasons with the Saints.
"We were thinking most about Manchester United. That was a tough time for me as I was on the bench so I was not thinking about anyone calling me," Mane told The Times.
The attacker has allegedly emerged as a transfer target for Real Madrid, with Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane said to be a huge admirer of his talents.
Mane's current deal at Anfield will run until the end of the 2022-23 campaign.
