Tottenham Hotspur are planning to reopen contract talks with Toby Alderweireld, according to a report.
The Belgian was widely expected to leave White Hart Lane this summer, but neither Roma or Manchester United decided to match his £25m release clause.
With that clause having expired on Thursday afternoon, The Mirror claim that Tottenham are now hoping that the 30-year-old has seen sufficient progress from the Lilywhites to sign a new deal.
Alderweireld's current contract expires next summer, meaning that he will be free to speak to foreign clubs in January.
Earlier this week he said: "Do I think I will be a Spurs player at the start of the season? That's my focus."
The defender made 50 appearances for Spurs last season and played a big part in the club reaching their first ever Champions League final.
