Late Matthew Upson goal downs Middlesbrough

Matthew Upson's 86th-minute winner proves the difference as Brighton & Hove Albion secure a 1-0 victory away to Middlesbrough this evening.

Brighton & Hove Albion have moved to within two points of the playoffs in the Championship with a narrow 1-0 victory at Middlesbrough this afternoon.

Boro, who were unbeaten at the Riverside Stadium since the opening day of the season, went behind on 86 minutes to Matthew Upson.

The defender rose highest to nod home Cardiff City loanee Craig Conway's corner four minutes from the end.

The hosts, who had not failed to find the net in any of their previous home fixtures this season, pushed for an equaliser, but Aitor Karanka's men failed in their attempts and the visitors remain within touching distance of Leeds United in the hunt for a playoff spot.
