Middlesbrough have reached an agreement to sign Uruguay international Christian Stuani from Espanyol.
The Championship club are thought to have had a bid of £2.8m accepted for the 22-cap South American.
Stuani, who has recently returned from Copa America duty, will now travel to Teesside to undergo a medical at Boro prior to completing a switch.
"In the next few days, Stuani will no longer be an Espanyol player as a preliminary agreement exists for the player to leave our club," a statement on Espanyol's official website read.
"The intention of the forward is to join Middlesbrough, coached by Spanish manager Aitor Karanka. The Uruguay international was expected to join our team in training this week but the player has been given permission not to do so in order to aid his transfer to his new team.
"The player's wish is to say goodbye to his teammates next week in Barcelona before joining his new club."
Stuani scored 16 goals in 48 appearances for the Parakeets last season.
