Middlesbrough will reportedly offer Coventry City defender Martin Cranie a contract in the summer.
The 25-year-old's current deal at the Ricoh Arena is due to expire at the end of the season, meaning that he would be able to switch clubs without the requirement of a transfer fee.
Boro boss Tony Mowbray is keen to bolster his defensive options in pre-season and has identified Cranie as his number one target, according to The Mirror.
However, Mowbray is expected to face competition for Cranie's signature.
