John Carver: 'I want the Newcastle United job permanently'

John Carver reiterates his desire to take the Newcastle United job on a permanent basis.

John Carver has reiterated that he wants to be given the Newcastle United job on a full-time basis.

The Magpies retained their top-flight status by beating West Ham United 2-0 at St James' Park this afternoon, recording their first win in 11 games.

Carver, who took over from Alan Pardew at the beginning of the year, said that he was hopeful of landing the role permanently in the close season after securing their place in next season's Premier League.

"I'm going to tell you, from day one I wanted the job and I still want it," he told Sky Sports News.

"To go through what I've gone through in the past four or five months under the circumstances, any manager out there would have found it quite difficult, whether they were experienced or inexperienced.

"I've dealt with it, this week was tough, I've got to be honest, and I tried not to show it. It was a build-up to a cup final, we've won the cup final and it'd be really nice to say that we've won something at the end of [next] season, and I want to be part of that."

Meanwhile, the club's owner Mike Ashley has rejected talk of selling up this summer.
