Papiss Demba Cisse is confident that he will prove worthy of wearing the famous number nine shirt at Newcastle United.
The 26-year-old Senegalese international scored twice during his first three games for the Magpies following his £9m move from Freiburg.
However, after being substituted in the Tyne-Wear derby draw with Sunderland, he was dropped for Monday night's visit to Arsenal.
"I feel with more games I will get better. I already feel like I understand the English game and the style of play here," Cisse told the Daily Mail.
"It has been hard but interesting to swap clubs and countries and it means you have time to get to know your teammates for next season so I have a headstart. I am hoping I will play better when I am more settled.
"Great men have worn the number nine shirt so I know exactly what it means. I feel good with this shirt and the fact they have given this shirt brings positive pressure."
Cisse is likely to be recalled against Norwich City in Sunday's league clash.
