Shola Ameobi: "The players are worried"

Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi admits that his side need a swift improvement and are far from assured of safety with three games remaining.

Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi has admitted that he and his teammates are worried about their Premier League status following Saturday's crushing defeat to Liverpool.

Alan Pardew's side slipped to a humiliating 6-0 home defeat, leaving the Magpies locked in a relegation battle.

With just three games left to secure safety, Ameobi has warned his side that a swift improvement is required to stave off fears of falling into the bottom three.

He told The Mirror: "It doesn't matter how good a team you are, it's about how much you want it, how hard you want to work and how much you want to win.

"The team that wants it most and fights for it the most will usually win. That's what we need. We have not done our jobs

"Should fans be worried? The players are worried. In the next three games, we can use this to spark us, and give us a kick up the backside. Nobody is too good to go down, as we found out last time."

The 31-year-old is one of the few remaining players at St James' Park to be relegated from the Premier League four years ago.
