Greg Dyke: 'I want video technology trials in the UK'

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke expresses an interest in conducting video technology trials in the UK - but admits that FIFA can prevent him from doing so.

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has expressed an interest in trialling video technology in the UK.

The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) has tested the use of replays to help a referee via a headset, and wanted to extend its use to competitive matches.

However, a meeting of football's lawmakers in Belfast this week put back such trials in official matches by at least 12 months.

Dyke told BBC Sport: "I would very much like to do a pilot in the UK, but FIFA can stop us doing [this].

"I can understand that everybody thinks we should not rush into change and that we should do it slowly, which I think does make sense, but you have got to do pilots to see what does work and what doesn't.

"If you could help that referee with video technology, then you should."

The current officiating system has come under scrutiny in recent months following a series of high-profile refereeing mistakes in Premier League matches.
