Troubled players contact clinic after Gary Speed's death

Five professional footballers seek help from the Sporting Chance Clinic following the apparent suicide of Wales boss Gary Speed.

Five troubled footballers have been in contact with the Sporting Chance Clinic following the death of Wales manager Gary Speed.

It is believed that the 42-year-old, who he was found hanged in his home in Cheshire, committed suicide.

Following the tragic news the Hampshire-based clinic, set up by Arsenal defender Tony Adams, has been approached by five professionals seeking help.

"I've received emails and phone calls from five players since Gary Speed's passing, all of whom have said, 'I have got to do something about this. I need help'," The Express quotes the clinic's chief executive Peter Kay as saying.

"It is fair to say Gary's death has prompted them to ask for help. Actually admitting you need help is one of the hardest and bravest decisions to make and at the clinic we will do all we can to try and get their lives back together."

The clinic, which was founded eleven years ago, focuses on supporting individuals within sport who are suffering from depression, drug abuse or alcoholism.
