Nottingham Forest sack manager Sean O'Driscoll.

Championship side Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Sean O'Driscoll, chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi has confirmed.

Al Hasawi made the announcement on his Twitter account just hours after Forest defeated Leeds United 4-2 in the day's early kickoff.

The tweet read: "It saddens me but we have parted company with Sean O'Driscoll. A tough decision but we are determined to move our great club forward."

The club released a statement shortly afterwards with further comments from the chairman.

"We cannot speak highly enough of Sean as a man," the statement read. "He was appointed at an extremely difficult time for the club and can count himself unlucky to have lost his job with the team just one point away from the top six.

"With the January transfer window approaching, we feel it's the right time to make a change. We are looking to bring in an ambitious manager with Premier League experience.

"Sometimes those changes need to be made from a position of strength rather than weakness and that is what we are trying to do."

Forest are currently eighth in the Championship.
