Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga reveals that he has spoken to Sweden teammate Alexander Isak regarding speculation over a transfer to Newcastle United.

Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga has revealed his happiness with life at the City Ground, despite leaving the door open to a move to Newcastle United.

During the 2023 summer transfer window, Elanga left Manchester United in order to make the switch to Forest in search of regular first-team football.

The 22-year-old made the correct decision on that front, featuring in 39 of Forest's 41 Premier League fixtures since his initial £15m transfer.

However, having contributed five goals and nine assists during the 2023-24 campaign, Elanga has naturally put himself on the radar of bigger clubs.

In the final hours of the most recent transfer window, Newcastle United made an attempt to acquire the Sweden international's services, only for the Magpies to fail with a bid in excess of £35m.

Elanga opens up on Newcastle interest

Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo will be encouraged to hear from Elanga that he is happy and settled at the East Midlands outfit.

Nevertheless, Elanga has acknowledged that he was happy to receive interest from what he describes as "a big club", suggesting that he would give consideration to a move in the future.

Speaking to Fotboll Skanalen, Elanga said: "The environment in Nottingham is good. It is clear that you can see that Newcastle are interested, it means that I am playing good football when a big club shows interest.

"But Nottingham is also a big club, they have won two Champions Leagues, even though it was before I was born. But I'm happy in Nottingham and have a contract there."

"I'm focusing on Nottingham and hope to have a good season, then we'll see what happens."

Elanga makes Isak admission

Elanga has been on international duty with Sweden where he has linked up with Newcastle forward Alexander Isak.

He added: "Isak talked to me about it. But I said the same to him as I say to you. We have a good relationship and good chemistry when we play together. But I have a contract with Nottingham."

Having started the 3-1 victory over Azerbaijan on Thursday, Elanga was only involved in the 3-0 win against Estonia on Sunday as a substitute.
