Joe Skarz makes Oxford United switch

Oxford United complete the signing of Joe Skarz after the full-back left Rotherham United by mutual consent.

League Two side Oxford United have completed the signing of former Rotherham United left-back Joe Skarz.

The 25-year-old was a key part of the Rotherham side that won promotion to the Championship last season, but had fallen out of favour at New York Stadium and left the club by mutual consent yesterday.

However, Oxford head coach Michael Appleton has wasted little time in adding Skarz to his squad.

"This is a huge signing for us," Appleton told the club's official website.

"Joe has been a regular player in a Championship side this season and he brings vital experience to our defence. He is someone who we've been keeping an eye on all season and as soon as we heard he was available we made our move.

"I think it speaks very highly of us that Joe was prepared to drop two divisions to come here despite other clubs also chasing him."

Skarz began his career at Huddersfield Town and made over 60 appearances for the Terriers before joining Bury in 2010.
